Hi guys. I wanted to know about getting my college app fees waived. I asked my college office counselor to get fee waivers for the 6 top privates i'm applying to. She gave me 6 letters claiming that i'm in the Free or Reduced Lunch program, and asking the universities to consider waiving my application fee. She says that the letter is all i need to mail to the coleges. Is this letter all I need to send in in order to receive the fee waiver, or is there some other paperwork involved.

This is what my daughter’s guidance counselor is doing for her, too. I’m guessing that a waiver is at the discretion of the college or university, and so it’s not guaranteed.

I know that there are some other applications like NACAC, but i want to know if sending these letters of just claiming to have free or reduced lunch is enough?

I don’t know if anything else is needed. But it seems as though the counselor’s letter stating that you receive free or reduced price meals is probably the most definitive evidence of low income short of sending in all the financial aid forms. Again, I think that schools reserve the right to not waive the fee, no matter what your circumstances.

Alright. Butt then, if the college chooses not to waive the application fee, how would it progress with my app after i submit it in? Would it process my app first and then ask for the application fee to be paid later. Or would it first ask for the fee, and delay the processing of my app? Thanks again.
