College Application Fee Waiver

Hello Everybody ,,

I was wondering how can I apply for a college application fee waiver through Commonapp
I'm an international student from Egypt ..
I'm taken the SAT , 2 SAT Subject tests and I'm taking the TOEFL soon .
Since my Home currency is very weak compared to The USA dollar and After paying what people here and family say " very much " for these tests .. I was wondering how can I ask for a fee waiver and what to say ..
I don't fall in anything in the CommonApp Fee waiver option , or , let me say I don't know If I'm eligible .. but I think I am not .. We are a living family of 5 members but we aren't very reach to pay for the Application fees after paying for the testings ..
Please help me if possible and give me some advice .

Thanks

You can send a college Board fee waiver that’s signed by your counselor if you fall under any one of

Enrollment in or eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)-called Reduced Lunch.
Annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
Enrollment in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g. Federal TRIO programs such as Upward Bound).
Family receives public assistance.
Lives in federally subsidized public housing, or a foster home, or are homeless.
A ward of the state or an orphan.

However if you don’t fall under any criteria like Reduced lunch(there are other criteria but i forgot) I dont think they can waive it for you. How much do your parents earn?

On the commonapp: you have to check “fee waiver”, then your guidance counselor has to check that you fall under the “reduced lunch” qualifier ($51,000 for a family of five, or $4,303 per month) OR can fill out an explanation that the fees are too high compared to your family income.
IF you’re applying to universities that don’t take the CommonApp, you should download the NACAC form, fill out the top, give the rest to your guidance counselor who would fill it out and stamp it with the school stamp, then you’d photocopy this and send it to the schools.
Some schools don’t waive the application fee (often, public universities)

Thanks Everyone , I’m really thankful …
My family’s income is around 7200$ Annually , could be less but couldn’t be more than this .
I’m applying through CommonApp and to universities that waive the application fee
but I don’t know what’s the next step , and what to expect … what if they didn’t waive it
Should I tell my counselor to write a letter explaining my family income and e-mail it to commonapp ?
should this be done before 1/1/2015 ? what if they didn’t reply before that time :frowning:
Thanks everybody again

99.999% they would waive it unless in special circumstance.

For example, Stanford doesn’t waive app fee if one applies for SCEA.

If your family’s yearly income is indeed $7,200, then yes basically unless they say they don’t, all colleges would waive the fee. All you have to do is check the “fee waiver” box. Then your counselor will see in his/her dashboard a “fee waiver” form to fill out. S/he will check " qualifies for free/reduced lunch" (that means your family’s income is less than $4,303 a month).S/he can add an explanation on a line at the bottom, such as “Yearly income $7,200 - seven thousand and two hundred dollars for a family of five.”)

Some colleges not on CommonApp won’t waiver the fee for internationals. However it’s often because they don’t offer financial aid (or sufficient financial aid) to internationals.

For this level of income, you qualify for Berea College. Only 5% internationals get in, but if you do get in, you get a full scholarship.

Thanks everybody again :)

But about Berea , they require that I finish my final high school year before I can apply … Now I am a high school senior , can’t I apply ?

No, they only require that you be enrolled in your final high school year. However, you have to hurry to gather all the required documents: everything must be RECEIVED by Jan 15, meaning you need to mail your “packet” soon!

Thanks a lot , I’ll do my best
Do you have some suggestions like Berea ?
I mean colleges that welcome internationals and gives them Full Scholarship if you are accepted
Thanks again :)

Howard is the only one. But its not guaranted.
