Out of curiosity, list the number of colleges you submitted applications to.

4 college applications

Thanks for replying. I would like to hear from others. I keep hearing that the number of applications is at a record high this year, not just at the Ivies but pretty much across the board. But is this because the student population is increasing at such a high rate? Or because more of us are applying to more colleges? I applied to 6 and I would say the average at my school is 5. I would like to hear from others on this site as to how many schools you applied to. What is the average?

I applied to 8 schools originally. One was rolling and one was ED. I ended up withdrawing the remaining six.

I applied to one and did so EA. Not only was it my dream school, I was pretty confident that I would get in. If not, I had my backup plan, because I received my decision mid-december.

It all worked out in my favor and I'm going to my dream school in August. =D

i applied to 7 here, all RD

I applied to 3 universities and 1 community college.

I applied to 11 schools - 1 public and in-state, 10 private and out-of-state.

8 (5 private, 3 public)

My son applied to 8 schools, all RD. One out of state public (where he'll probably be offered full-ride) & seven privates.
His friends have applied to varying numbers--his best friend applied to 11 or 12. His cousin applied to 5 & got in EA to Notre Dame, her dream school where she'll likely attend. She stopped applying to the rest when she got her acceptance from ND (not sure how many she would have applied to otherwise). Another friend's son applied to 4 & has gotten in to all 4 with varying merit offers (finances are an issue).
Last year, a friend's son applied to 14 schools yet still ended up only attending one, Carlteon (where he's VERY happy). Another friend's son last year applied to 4--two private uber-reaches (denied & waitlist), one OOS public & one private, all RD. He chose the private, which gave him good merit aid for NMF.
At my son's private school, the GC recommends at least two "likelies"--used to be called safeties, several 50/50s (sometimes called "matches") & some reaches. Many kids apply to 8+. My niece's school makes similar recommendations.

Thank you HImom. I know that 1987 was the peak year of what some call the baby boomlet generation and that more people were born in 1987 that any year except 1957, the peak of the baby boom. All colleges are reporting record apps and this is obviously a big reason. I just also wonder if it is also becuase all of us apply to so many. and wonder what this will do to college acceptance yield. it wont impact top top colleges but do wonder about the second tier.
