What're some reliable ways to find out what a certain college's atmosphere is like and what type of students there are?
I'm looking for something more than just generalizations that most college information sites have. I want to know what it would be like to go there and what the people and general culture is like. I'm already using the Fiske Guide, Princeton Review, and CC.

If the college has student blogs on their websites, you should check those out. I’ve found that the student blogs capture the school’s vibe (to some extent) and personality quite well. MIT blogs are my personal favorite, but Tufts, Caltech and Harvard also have a thorough blog section.

■■■■■■■■■■ reviews!!

Even within one college, one person’s experience will be different from the next. So you can get specifics, but it may not reflect the next person’s experience or what yours would be. Good luck with that.

Check out the college newspaper, if it’s online. Do read it critically - what students somewhere may find incredibly horrible may not appear so elsewhere, etc. :)

Thank you, any other suggestions?

I think the c-o-l-l-e-g-e p-r-o-w-l-e-r website is useful (have to type it that way, otherwise CC stars it out). Also, read old threads out here. Can be quite revealing if you dig back into them.
