College Audition Songs

Hey! So I'm applying to theatre programs this year and have auditions in the next few months. I'm applying to mostly plain theatre programs but a few MT ones as well. For MT I'm trying to find my songs for auditions. Though I'll be working with a voice coach soon I was wondering what you thought of what I'm considering right now:

"Happy to Keep his Dinner Warm"-How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying for my uptempo

Then either "Time heals Everything" from Mack and Mabel or "Being Alive" from Company for my ballad.

I realize Being Alive is overdone but it fits my voice really well and i just love singing it. Is it too overdone and out of the question to do for college auditions?

I'm an alto and tend to default to my chest and belt but I am also comfortable in my head voice/mix. The MT places I'm applying to BTW are: Ithaca, Emerson, CMU and then have sining portions to my LMU and Muhlenberg auditions as well. If you have any other suggestion too I would love to hear! :)

Thank you!!

If you post your question in the Musical Theatre Majors forum of CC, you are likely to receive some helpful replies about songs. Good luck to you.

Most colleges say NOT to do ANY Sondheim! I don’t believe the other two songs are on the overdone list but there are some schools that say not to perform any songs that have been on Broadway during the last five years.

Ahhh! You’re so right… don’t know why I did theatre/dram instead… brain flub!

Yeah, I know you’re supposed to stay away from Sondheim but I thought that’s just because it’s hard for the accompanist, but I just didn’t think it was too difficult for this song. Thanks!
