College Board Creates New PSAT for Grade 8

^ LOL
10 char

Didn't read the whole article, but what's the point of a new test? Isn't there something called the SSAT already that's used to get into competitive high schools? Guess it isn't made by CB.

"By the time they're taking the PSAT, it's much too late to determine whether they should be taking algebra in the eighth grade, biology, and other important gatekeeper classes needed for college," he said. "This test will help schools identify students who have some talent and could likely succeed if they take honors or AP courses, but have not been recognized."(in the article)

isn't that what counselors and grades are for? to figure out placement and success? what's worse is that cb knows some parents and students will buy into this crap b/c of desperation due to fears.

one word comes to mind. RIDICULOUS!

Speaking of money, the new test isn't cheap - parents will be forced to pay the ETS $450 per newborn. Discounts are not given for multiple children.

I was especially scared by the Princeton Review guy saying that sixth grade was the key college assessment year! He's talking about the time when I still thought boys had cooties, and saying that I should having been pondering the differences between small and medium size LACS and whether my ECs were up to scratch?! Instead of, like, whether I should eat lunch in the library or risk being talked to in the cafeteria? (which was a real dilemma for me as a 10 year old, no joke)

This is insane. I'm going to go play with my legos now.

hahahah lmao my brother is screwed ;)
