College Board Messes Up on October Test?

I posted this in another thread.
CB gave me a score CONSIDERABLY lower than those of my OFFICIAL practice tests in EVERY section.

I have identified NUMEROUS other CC members who have reported a similar occurrence.

Evidence? First, let's start with my essay score... I received a 7. Yes, that is the combination of a 3 and a 4. I am a competant writer. This score is offensive.
Have you seen the essay examples that fall within this region? Without expounding the absurdity of this score, I will just say that there is no justification for it.

With regards to multiple choice discrepancies, see below (all refer to October test date.)

Math:

CB GAVE ME: 740
-3 wrong

I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN: 770-780
-Against CC answers, I calculated only 1 wrong.

I USUALLY GET: 770-780

SCORE DISCREPANCY: 30-40

Though highly unlikely (as I checked against CC scores), it is possible that I made a human error somewhere along the line in math. But, math isn't the part that raises my eyebrow...

******* The problem is REALLY blatant for CR and Writing.

Writing:

COLLEGE BOARD GAVE ME: 690.
8 wrong / SCORE 7 essay (this essay score is preposterous, as I have previously elucidated)

WHAT I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN: 800.
Against CC answers, I calculated only 1-2 wrong, and I expected no less than a 10 essay.

WHAT I USUALLY GET: 800
Between 0-2 wrong.

SCORE DISCREPANCY: ~100
- October Expected, CC answers: 800-690=110

- Usual: 800-690=110

Critical reading:

COLLEGE BOARD GAVE ME: 690.
- 8 MC wrong

WHAT I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN: 800.
Against CC answers, I calculated between 1-3 wrong.

WHAT I USUALLY GET: 740-760
around 4 wrong

SCORE DISCREPANCY: ~100
- October Expected from CC answers: 800-690=110
- Usual: 750-690=70

Pay the $50 and let them recheck your scores. If it’s a problem on their side, they’ll refund you.

@John - I’m trying to point out that this isn’t an isolated incident. It appears to be more pervasive than I thought.

** Also, telling us to rescore our test is not a satisfactory solution. MANY of us are applying EA or ED. We can’t afford to wait. This is NOT okay. And if it is not fixed in a timely manner, mark my words, I will seek restitution.

Here is a post by musicislife73 a few hours ago:

I also had very low score than I expected.
I know I got only 1 wrong for math and they gave me 720.
And writing, I have no idea how I could possibly drop from 800 (last test) to 620.
Should I ask for score verification?

You should ask musicislife73 if he’s in the same area with you. Collegeboard sometimes screw things up. See: [SAT Scoring “Debacle” Undermines Test-Maker Credibility | FairTest](http://www.fairtest.org/sat-scoring-debacle-undermines-test-maker-credibil)

my writing dropped a bunch to because of the same offensive 7 on my essay… maybe it was the same 2 graders?
anyway a 690 would be a 7 on the essay and 3 wrong i think

Yes, clearly you are a competant writer. Much more competant at writing that the CB is competant at scoring.

Please, everyone, CALL COLLEGE BOARD. IF they GET a stampede of calls, WE CAN FORCE THEM TO TAKE NOTICE.

Uh… I’m not seeing your argument very well. You haven’t received the explaination for your scores yet did you? So your calculations would be off. Let me review your post:

(Excuse me but I don’t understand CC BB-codes)

So I think you refused to acknowledge that you messed up… (you didn’t even messed up that much really). CCers answers are based on a mixture of opinion and facts. Not pure answers., though most guesses are indeed correct.
Also just remember that you “writing” is subject to another person eyes. It’s not an automatic 12 (which is the highest). It doesn’t matter how good or bad of a writer you are… Apparently according to CB you are a worse writer then me by one point.

You are arguing against something that been doing this for years. Just accept that you and others slip up. CC is not that reliable.

A very competant writer indeed…

You and musicislife73 need to learn how the whole writing scale works.

8 wrong with a 7 essay is NOT a 690. It’s more like a 590. (Heck, even 7 essay with -3 is a 650, far lower than what you got).

You got a 690 because AT MOST you missed 3 MC questions and got a 7 on your essay. Your MC score (72, right?) is NOT your raw score. A 72 correlates to about a 46 raw score, meaning you missed 2-3 questions, since 49 is the max # of questions. Another poster had a scaled score of 71 (= raw score of roughly 45) which means he missed about 3 questions and received an 8 essay got the SAME score as you (690). So I’m guessing, you missed only 2 MC writing questions, perfectly reasonable, since you mentioned in your post “I calculated only 1-2 wrong”.

Now for your essay grade, I can sympathize. I received a 9 on my essay and for sure thought I’d receive at least a ten. I’m not sure why the essay graders were harsh this time around, but it happens…and it’s nothing something to waste your money for. My MC score was lower than yours (69), but I received a 700 total because of my 9 essay.

And for your CR score, I experienced the same problem as you last Jan SAT. When I compared answers with CC I only found like 3 wrong answers, but I received a score of 640 (11 wrong) on the actual test. That being said, CC is not that reliable… I would just recommend studying hard for the December test.
