College Bumper Sticker?

Have the XXXX-Mom sticker as well for S1’s school. H’s car has our alma mater sticker, which he’ll replace when we replace the car. Expect to get a sticker for S2, wherever he ends up.

We have three cars.

One is a high-end brand and No, no decals there. We’re trying to keep it pristine.

One is the car I drive around everywhere, and Yes, it has both sons’ school decals on the back windshield.

The third is what we affectionately call the “Dog Mobile,” and boy, does it have decals – one for my husband’s alma mater and his sport, one for our Australian Shepherds, one for rugby (both DH and both sons play), and one for Block Island, where we go many summers.

D’s college sent a “Proud Parent of a Miami Hurricane” car decal, which H and I fought over like 2 little kids. We subsequently ordered UM decals for each of our cars, as well as all of the grandparents cars! Not to mention an entire wardrobe of clothing…

Our cars both sport decals for the college team our son plays on. We really like spotting the other parents, alumni, and other supporters on the highway heading to the game.

One of our friends has University Male Sport for one kid and University Female Sport for the other. Their car is easy to spot!

And yes, we have all the gear. You’ll see our parent group in the stands on the game films … very visible as we are all in the same bright color.

Should also note that most window stickers are not glue-on any more (the plastic just stays in place for scientific reasons I don’t understand) so they are easy to take off when you get rid of the car–no lasting sticky stuff.

Yes, both H and I have decals on our cars and the grandparents have decals for all the grandkids currently in college.

If you do have a “sticky” decal that you want to get off…use your hairdryer. Just blow it on the sticker for a minute. The adhesive will melt and you can peel it right off.
Have done this quite a few times. It works.

It also works for those tacky dealership stickers affixed to the back of your car.
We once bought a used Toyota from a non-Toyota dealership. I loved the car but hated the big sticker on the trunk that said " Super City Chevrolet". I got out my hair dryer and pulled that sticker right off.

My son thinks all the decals on my minivan are tacky, but I like them! I have a decal from his high school marching band, an “I’m proud of my Eagle Scout” bumper sticker, decals from my college, the college my son is transferring to and the one he is transferring from, along with an apple for my mac, and one from my dojo. They all make me smile, and I like seeing them in my rearview mirror.

When we were homeschooling, I had a bumpersticker that said, “My kid is an honor student at Pedro’s Tacos.”

I loved that sticker!

I have a decal from D’s college but it doesn’t show up well with the tinted windows. I need to replace it with a white one. My license plate holder is from my own alma mater.

What I really need to do is remove the decal from the high school dance team new that D has graduated.

Ouch! I did not think about it - may be I should peel the window decal off, because some Seven Sisters rivals might vandalize D’s beloved vehicle  JK! I’m not that worried about the *Go Huskies *sticker though - we are in Seattle, after all, but I would probably take it off if we decide to drive this car across the mountains.

None on the bumper but a decal for D’s school across the top of the rear window and a decal for TheMom’s school in the upper corner of same. (No visibility problems when looking in rear-view mirror.)

Absolutely I have the college decals on my car! Around here nobody has heard of either college (Carleton, WPI), so I consider it as raising awareness of colleges beyond Texas).

YES! I put a LEHIGH decal on when my first child was admitted 2 years ago and when my other child was recently admitted I had to add a 2nd LEHIGH decal to my rear window. For a 100k a year they should give out free decals!

Well, D1 went to Harvard, and some people think you are an arrogant snot even if you simply answer honestly in response to a direct question. So proclaiming it unbidden by putting a decal on your car is likely whip them into a frappe of disapproval. With D2 going to Dartmouth I think that will be much less of an issue, where the more typical response is “Dartmouth? Where is that located?”

As for the rival school issue, I was thinking more in terms of say USC/UCLA or other very fierce rivalry and and what some drunken frat boy might decide to do to your car if you parked near campus with your car wearing the wrong decal.

What oldfort said goes for me:

It always did double duty, since D is at my alma mater. S1 joins her there later this month, so it’ll do triple duty now. (He’s suggested taking a Sharpie and writing “x 3” on the window.)

(WaitingDad, D’s/my/S1’s school does send the decals with admissions letters, btw. Lehigh needs to get with the program. :D)

PackMom: thanks for the hair dryer tip - that one’s a keeper.

DrivingWith3Decals

My car has a spot that is very obviously intended for a front licence plate. Our state issues for the rear only. I sport a metal plate with S’s school name on the front of my car.

Yep, they gave me a window decal, but the window is too dark for it to show, so I had to buy the bumper sticker.
