College Campus Visits

I'm planning to transfer next year and I wanted to visit a few nearby colleges to strengthen my transfer app because I heard that visits are tracked and factor into admission decisions.
I'll definitely be touring my major's departments and also obviously the admissions office. Unfortunately, the colleges I'm interested in don't offer on campus interviews.

Other than all that, do you guys have any tips on what I can do during the visit to make myself stand out to the admission officers? Are overnight stays any better than regular visits in the eyes of admissions officers? Also, how can I ensure that the colleges have a record that I was even there?

If it isn't too much to ask, I would also like some general advice to maximize my application other than the obvious get good grades this year, do ECs, and write killer essays. Are they any small tips or tricks, that will give my chances a slight boost here and there and separate me from the other guy who has almost the same app as mine?

(For those who will try to convince me to stay all 4 years at my current college, I would just like to say that my current college doesn't have the exact major I'm interested in and also that I have other personal reasons for transferring.)

Thanks

It depends on the level of selectivity of your target schools. If the transfer accept rate is higher (+30% or so), it might come into play. But if many people are striving to get in a few spots, then your “demonstrated interest” actually isn’t a factor b/c the school knows it has more leverage and doesn’t have to court you as hard. You might want to check your facts first. Good luck to you in your future plans.

I am a parent. My son is just beginning college visits. We will be going to visit NorthWestern this November and wanted to know if anyone could suggest any colleges local to Northwestern in Chigaco. No more than an hours drive please.

Tush: Colleges will know you are there when you sign in for the info session, tour, etc. Some schools do not care. Overnights are better to show interest.
