College Chance for me?

some of the activities you have listed are made to sound like a big honor by the people who run them, but they really aren’t that big a deal. National Youth Leaders, National Society of High School Scholars, People to people, are mostly just looking to get money from people who want to pad their resumes for college. no offense, they are worth something, but colleges are also aware that they are not as prestigious as they seem. Nevertheless, your other ecs seem fairly strong, although your academic record (in terms of GPA and SAT scores) seems a bit lacking. you have a decent chance at NYU, but Georgetown will definitely be more of a reach for you. make sure you balance out your reaches with a few safety/match type schools where you have better chances and will be happy.

good luck, im sure you will end up at a great school that is a good fit for you! remember to take this whole process with a positive attitude, otherwise these chance posts can just freak you out completely.

chance me please!

yeah, i’ll chance you with a 2300 to be nice.

NYU shouldn’t be a problem with such a high score
G’town = low reach, but only if you write some epic essays

Where are u applying in nyu? If it is stern then it’s a small reach. Otherwise u are in. I’m assuming that your essay will be about piano. If so, then it will increase your chances if it is good, b/c it will show how much of a force it is in your life. Your gpa is sorta low, but there’s nothing you can do about it now. Just concentrate on your ec’s and stuff. It’s ok, my gpa sucks major ass too

Do you know how much I can raise my GPA in the first half of my senior year?
Let’s say I get straight A’s (4.0 GPA)

Well, I am going to strive for straight A’s, whether my senior grades count or not. However, I was always under the impression they counted.

Your initial transcript shows you GPA until junior year, but the mid-year report that your counselor must send in later shows your senior year grades for first semester.

OK. Thanks!

Senior classes. Are these rigorous enough for good schools?
Gym
Chem 1
Honors US Government (No AP option)
Honors Sociology (No AP option)
AP English Literature
AP Statistics
AP German
AP Environmental Sciences

With a strong SAT I and some good SAT II scores, you should be able to make it.

Oh, no!
I just found out that Georgetown looks at ALL your SAT scores! NOOOOOOOO!!!

“Georgetown only considers the critical reading and math portions of the SAT, not the writing section. If an applicant takes the SAT more than once, the admissions committees will consider the highest critical reading score and the highest math score from multiple test sessions when reviewing the application.”

Thank you! My little chance is still alive!

Your gpa won’t harm you if you can in fact pull through with an 1850 to 2300 improvement. Your ecs are absolutely outstanding, make your next sat count! You are in a very similar situation to me as far as the sat. Please chance me.
[Please chance me for Boston College!?! - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=12778045)
Thanks so much

SAT’s quite difficult to pull up by 400 points. Although it’s possible if you spend most of your summer straight up studying.

Personally, I got a 1950 in 8th grade, 2250 sophomore year, and 2370 in January, so I know it can be done.

My biggest piece of advice would be to take practice tests over and over to get accustomed to the format. I’m no SAT expert, but if you want more help message me.

Id say if your SAT claim is true, and you get the subject tests right, you will get into both schools for sure!

There are some updates I have to make.

I botched my finals, resulting in lower junior-year grades. The GPA I listed was just a projection of what I predicted I would get at the end of junior year.

Well, now I know my real grades! I’m looking at a lower GPA. FANTASTIC!

Can high SAT’s, ACT’s, straight A’s in senior year, and unique EC’s save me from this doom???

What is the doom that you fear?

I fear that my horrendous grades will jeopardize my chances for my dream colleges, which are top-tier universities. That is the ultimate, short-term doom. Being stuck in a mediocre-quality-of-education college where you are not challenged by top professors is not something I want for myself.

Well, if I do not make it to any of the top-tier schools, I can go to some state university and then transfer, but I would very much prefer getting into a top-tier school.

These aren’t going to happen: an SAT score of 2300-2400 and a GPA of 3.7 or more.

I know that everyone is telling you that some of these schools are reaches and to be honest, they’re not wrong. But, it’s very important to focus some of your attention on safety schools. And although no one seemed to pick up on it, Penn State Honors is not a safety school for anyone. They are the top 5% of one of the best public universities in the nation. It’s an ivy education for $13,000. Safety schools are just as important as reach schools.
