Hey everybody whats up. I am a junior in high school right now, and i really want to go to some top 30 schools but my gpa is holding me back so i want to know reasonably where i could go. In my freshman year i had a gpa of about a 91, taking all honors courses. It was brought down by some stupid classes (spanish and band). In sophomore year I really screwed up, and ended up with an average of about a 88, taking all honors and one ap class. This year im not doing bad, and should end up with about a 91, taking 2 ap's and all honors. Next year i will be taking 5 ap's.

gpa uw- 3.55 (rounded). got it off of some website that calculates it for you.

I thought I had a really good shot at BU, had similar stats as you, if not as good ECs, and got waitlisted. I got into UM though. PM me about that, though, that’s a whole separate topic.

Good SAT score, and dedication to your “open kitchen”. Your private glider license is interesting. If you won any awards in debate, you should mention them.

columbia Get your grades up senior year first semester, because it shows up on your FINAL transcript. Also, may want to participate in some prestigious regional/national competitions.

Thanks for the help. I also attended a national youth leadership forum on medicine - not to pa my resume, but because I wanted to see if I would be interested in the medical field, as it was something I was seriously considering doing, I ended up enjoying my time there a lot, but now also know I don’t want to do medicine). Should I say this in my application?

No I didn’t do national student leadership conference. I did the NYLF thing and that was it. I also got a letter from stanford for some summer program 10 weeks long where you can earn college credit, but I decided not to do it, seemed like a waste of money

Guys I don’t want to sound like an ass or anything but I’ve gotten help from only 3 people, yet this thread has soo many views. Is there nobody else that can chance me? It only takes a few seconds and I’ll chance you back if you want

I think Tufts may be more of a reach but I don’t know. They are very tricky admissions wise. Maybe Tulane, Fordham and American also. Best of luck!

You should be fine for your safeties, NYU, and Boston College. To get to your reaches, you have to improve your grades- but they are not totally out of the picture at all. Good luck!

Thanks guys! So the different schools of nyu, specifically cas and stern place the same amount of emphasis on different parts of the app? Like does cas consider SAT’s with the same weight that stern does?

In at safeties, BC is a high match. Maybe look at northeastern? Their co-op program is fantastic, and I am sure you have great chances there. Your targets seems bit high, but if you apply to all, you will likely be in at at least one!

Hmmm…I really think you need to work to get that GPA up some more. Even for your matches, it’s looking a little grim. I think in the other parts of your app you look like a strong candidate, though maybe not for Columbia. There are just so many competitive applicants applying to these schools that you have to make sure you have the grades AND something that will make you stand out. What makes you different, special? Make sure you highlight that in your app.

Your in at your safeties. However, I wouldn’t agree that you are in at Boston College. To say that its a safety is foolish. Its a high match. Your reaches are, exactly what you described them as, reaches. The problem is your GPA is low you havn’t taken as many AP’s as a lot of applicants will have, so you don’t have as strong a reason for having a low GPA(unless your school is one of those crazy prestigious ones).
