College chances in the MD/DC/VA area. "unique" situation

Hey, this is my first post on CC. I'm pretty new but I appreciate the help. So thank you in advance.

Well, I graduate hs in 2011. I go to a highly competitive school in MA.

As far as my grades go....
After my sophomore year my overall weighted gpa was a 2.9. Not too good.
My junior year was a little complicated. I ended up going through a terrible depression and had to miss school for about a month. Emotional distress and other factors didn't help my grades too much. First three terms of junior year. C+ in English, History, Math. Fs or Ds in Spanish or Chem. However, I got everything under control. And ended up getting B+ in English, A- in Math, A- in history for my last term. Brought up Chem to a D+ (still not that great but improvement nevertheless). Spanish idk. However, I have an F as my final year grade for Chem. yeah...

I should have solid recs from my Math and English teacher. Counselor is willing to explain the whole depression thing. SAT - 2070 w/o score choice. SAT 2 subject tests are decent. I'm assuming my GPA is much lower after all this but still.

I'm looking at colleges in the DC area as the title says. I'm thinking of Goucher College, Towson U, UMBC, American (slim), UMD college park (slim), and George Mason.

I don't know how colleges respond to situations like this, so I really appreciate your input.

Thoughts?

I probably should have said something about ECs

I was VP of my Junior Class. Planned things for prom. Lots of fundraising.

I’m a chair member of a local nonprofit organization. We’ve raised 5 - 10 thousand dollars for those living in the Sichuan area in China. Sichuan has been hit by earthquakes in the past couple of years.

I’ve participated in a business program competition for the past two years. Spend 6 months developing a plan. Market it to venture capitalists.

Took two 4 credit courses at Harvard over the summer. Macroeconomics and IR. Did okay in both.

do you know what your gpa is now? you could always go to a CC and then transfer to somewhere better. you seem very smart though! have you looked at umbc, howard university, loyola, catholic university etc? if your gpa can be explained by the depression and the schools accept it then you should get into a lot of places. good luck!

I still have no idea. I’ll find out in a couple of weeks hopefully. Thanks!

I’m visiting UMBC next week. Howard has a really good poli sci program with great professors but I don’t feel comfortable being one of only 17 asian/indian students :/.

bump please

last bump :/

Goucher has accepted everybody from your school. Ever. And Howard will accept you because you’re Indian. American will accept you.
