What do you think are my chances of getting into UCSB, UCLA, UCB, USC, Cal Poly, UTexas, Uwashington, Umich, Boston U, Indiana (Kelley school of business) Uwisconsin, Boulder, Umiami?

I just want to be prepared and maybe add more safeties depending on what you guys say. Thank you!

Intended major?
UC capped weighted and fully weighted GPA? Cal poly SLO or Pomona? HS course rigor? AP/IB or DE courses? SAT subject tests?

SLO GPA uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation.

Local for Cal Poly or SDSU?

My intended major is Business, but at UCSB I am under Communications and Umich and Utexas liberal arts. My UC capped weighted and fully weighted GPA are both 4.02 and 3.8 unweighted. Cal Poly SLO. My AP classes have been AP world history, AP Psych, AP Lang, AP Spanish , AP Literature, AP Economics. I took 3 Sat subject tests and got 620 on spanish and 590 on math so I am not planning on reporting them

I’m not sure any of those schools are safeties. And without your unweighted GPA, and course rigor, two of the most important factors in the admission decision, I/we can’t offer an opinion.

My weighted GPA is 4.1 and Unweighted is 3.8 . I have taken AP World History, AP Language, AP Spanish, AP Psychology, AP Literature, and AP Economics. Ive taken many courses specific to business like Business, Marketing, Accounting, and Advanced Business Management.

You have no safeties. SDSU is a solid Match but not a safety. UCLA does not have an Undergrad Business school so Business Econ is what you are leaning towards?
USC, UCLA and UCB are Reach schools. SLO is Match to High Match. Have you calculated your SLO MCA points?

UCSB is a High Match/Low Reach.

I suggest you add UCR or another Cal State as a possible safety.

I cannot comment on the OOS schools. Best of luck.

Do you think Boulder is not a safety?

University of Colorado is a likely school that can be your safety if you get that app out early and get an acceptance before year end. It would be a safety for you, and maybe still is, if you are talking about the regular school, not the school of business, or if you decide it’s just as well for you if you get accepted to the school in general, if you were a state resident and if you get your app in early.

Like most state schools, UCBoulder caters to its own first. The school of business, like many schools of business, is more selective than the regular admissions. You cannot just go by the overall admissions figures of a school when you want to get into a specific program. Some programs in schools that are easy ins, can be the most selective in the country. Also OOS admissions rates are lower than in state for this school as it often is for OOSers at state schools. Your stats put you in the mid 50% of enrolled students, both for grades and test scores. It’s a match. But any school is a safety once you get the accept letter, and UCBoulder has EA.

UT-Austin is a high reach for OOSers wanting the business school even with very high test scores and stats. Actually, it is for in staters as well who don’t get accepted through the auto accept program (Top 6% of class)

UW-Madison is more competitive for OOSers and says right out they are. They accepted 2/3 of In staters but are more stringent for OOSers. How selective their school of business is, I do not know.

UI-Kelley, is more competitive than the general liberal arts part of the school, but I think that one may be a good match and you can apply early to possibly secure a spot there and make it your safety.

UWashington-Seattle has become competitive, I’m told, in part due to all the Californeans seeking admissions .

University of Miami has an accept rate in the high 30’s Not a safety. A reach.

University of Michigan is selective and a reach.

Boston U has become extremely selective and, yes, a reach.

You have a number of schools that allow early and rolling admissions. I’d get those apps out and they can be your safeties. Be aware that early is very important to specific state programs, in particular. As they fill up, the schools tend to get very stingly giving up coveted seats in programs like engineering, business, nursing, and they do cater to their in state constituents to some degree.

So, you can either find a true sure thing safety early, or wait till year end and see how the early bird come back to roost. If you have birds in hand, then certainly, go all out for the ones in the bush.
