College Choice

Im trying to aim for an Ivy League college after high school. My dad says however, to go to a not so prestige college, than aim for an Ivy League, for my masters.
Looking for more opinions on this, good or bad idea.

How do you know at this point that you’re going to be getting a master’s degree?

Can you explain with more detail why he doesn’t want you to go?

This is all theoretical, and my dad says this to save money.

The Ivy League schools are extremely rich and will give you good financial aid if you have need.

I decided not to aim to the prestigious/expensive schools because my EFC is too high and I won’t qualify for money.
Although my parents told me to anywhere, $250,000 is too much for me for undergrad.

MAYBE, I might go there if I go to law school.

Lol. What you’ve given us is extremely marginal. You’re not gonna get any opinions on your case until you tell us more, like what you’re thinking of studying and your family income and such.

I plan in getting into an engineering field, and my family income is at 100,000. However due to religious reasons, I cannot take out loans with interest.

Look at state schools. Most flagships have strong engineering departments and hand out merit scholarships unlike Ivy League schools. Not to mention that they’re less expensive to begin with. You want your school to be ABET-accredited.

[Accredited Program Search](http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx)

You still may qualify for aid. Why not apply and see what they offer you?

I don’t know, he has a point. Liberal arts colleges are usually better for undergraduate work, and you can stand out at a small school more easily than a large one, which will help when you apply to graduate school.

But if the only reason is money, the Ivy Leagues are worth a shot anyway.
