Do you think its good if the only reason why I want to go to certain colleges is because of the name and that it is ivy league? My mom doesn't want me to go to a horrible college lik BU because she wants me to become a doctor and not be a failure... (both my cousins went to harvard, another one is guranteed to go to MIT)

bu is not a horrible college It may not be the best college in the world! BUT i would be honored to go and theres a whole lot of worse colleges!

Boston is def. not a horrible college. Ask her what college she went to? if she didnt go to an ivy she shouldnt pressure you to. and if she did...well maybe it's time to lead your own life not let her pressure you into doing domething you dont.

-My $.02

no... She went to a college in texas... My parents are immigrants (asians),.... Anything not ivy league is "horrible" to their eyes...

And they keep saying how sons of poor people work hard and try harder since they know its important and get into better colleges than sons of rich people who don't work hard and are spoiled...

oh..i see..no offense, but are they the stereotypical asain parents that pressure their kids to study alot and are displeased with anything under an ivy?

yes... ................

I was under that catergory also. My parents wanted me to go to Stanford so bad because my cousin went there even though I knew I could not get in cause I had a low gpa, sat, and not so good ECs (gpa uw was 3.7 w 4.2, sat 1810). In fact, they even made me apply for Penn ED and of course I got rejected. I'm going to UC Berkeley next year which was my first choice. Anyways, you should still apply to some good schools and apply to some you like also, your parents will most likey accept where ever you go cause I know my parents attitudes changed dramatically from the beginning of the school year to now.
