What are some top 30 none LAC colleges that meet the following criteria. Anything outside of HYPSM of course.
1. Academically conscious, but not overwhelming.
2. Not an overwhelming fratty or preppy culture.
3. Geographically not important, but not in California.

Do you know what you want to study?

Top 30 minus HYPSM minus Caltech, Chicago minus Dartmouth minus Berkeley, UCLA, USC and you've got yourself a list. Depending on what you mean by preppy/fratty, you might also want to scratch out ND, Vanderbilt, Michigan.

@phuriku
nice list......................../s

@fluxxii
Chemistry or BME; physical application type, not theoretical

How about WUSL? The atmosphere is pretty chill, and their science programs are really well-respected.

Maybe Georgetown or Tufts?

I am already applying to WUSTL; am not interested in Tuft. I have been to Georgetown don't like it.
Anyone else? Thanks for all the input

Emory would be perfect.

Boston College and NYU are just outside the top 30 in US News's rankings (35 and 34 respectively) but they also fit all your wants.

How about the rest of the Ivies (sans LAC dartmouth)?

What DO you like?

northwestern?

BC is a religious affiliated school; no thanks
NYU might be a good choice; I have never thought of that schools; only keeps on hearing about Stern on CC. I'll have to check it out.
Emory is not a good choice, but I was nominated for Emory Scholar so I am applying there nevertheless.
I am quite fond of Brown, but I don't think I can make it (also with Columbia). I am applying to Penn as big reach school.
And I am also applying to NU.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Applying

Really like:
Penn
Rice
Cornell

Decently like:
Northwestern
Emory
Duke
Pittsburgh

Don't really like:
Case Western (After reading a bit about its "reputation" I decided to drop it, but the application is free and I'll be just sending in my common app essay, so its no work)

Any more suggestions for some suitable schools?

Religious affiliated schools doesn't necessarily mean that there are people running around with Bibles - don't worry. Is that the only reason why you don't like BC?

What about Carnegie Mellon and JHU?

if you like Brown, why wouldn't you apply?

University of Rochester?

Thanks for all the suggestions; I for one have looked over every school on the USNWR ranking list. It seems to me that there aren't many schools left that really fit my creteria. Thanks again for all the input.

JHU, Brown, and Chicago are the only schools that I feel I should apply to. Brown might be a little out of my league, amplified by the fact that they don't take the common app. Chicago is rigorous and has the uncommon app. JHU is just meh.
