Hi, Trying to make a decision, University of Michigan, College of Engineering vs. Georgia Tech? I appreciate any thoughts on making this decison. :)

Are finances a concern and are costs equal?

Although I’m not in the College of Engineering, I do know that the school is VERY highly regarded as engineering schools go. My friend is majoring in CSE, he’s in his senior year and graduating in a couple weeks, and he’s already got a job secured for next year with a starting salary of $80,000. It’s a huge honor to attend Michigan’s engineering program. I would highly recommend choosing Michigan (and yeah, I’m biased since I go here, but I do think it’s a good choice).

That being said, however, if you are out of state, it is extremely expensive to go to this school, whatever program you choose to do. Let us know more about the criteria that you’re debating, and we’ll try and help you get to a decision :)

That’s like comparing apples to oranges. GT and Michigan both have elite Engineering programs and facilities and are equally regarded in engineering academic and professional circles.

That is where the similarities end. Ann Arbor is very different from Atlanta. The campus vibe and culture is very different at Michigan than at Georgia Tech. If cost is a concern and one of the two schools is significantly cheaper to attend, I would go there. Otherwise, I would choose the one that suits you better. Do you want to be at a school where 70% of the students major in Engineering or a hard science or would you rather be at a school where there is more academic and intellectual variety? Does the 7:3 male to female ratio at Georgia Tech appeal to you or does it bother you?
