For a school that she likes, I would go with the $20K (with future increases) more. It’s manageable. 3.6 requirement is awfully high, in my opinion. Our kids are hitting those years when depression, hormones, all kinds of stuff hit, and even the best students have had slumps. 3.0 is doable and one can recover from it, but 3.6 is really a tough requirement in my opinion. Better she go where she likes and doesn’t have the stress and risk of losing it all.

Congrats to your D! My D will be attending there this fall as a theater major. My S just finished his second year there as a Marine Biology and Biochemistry major. There are some great professors in the sciences at Rollins. If you or D have any questions about the school or academics just ask.

Congratulations to your new Tar! My niece graduated from Rollins last spring with a degree in psychology and my nephew (her brother) just finished his freshman year. She was a swimmer and he is a baseball player so they got some scholarship help. They absolutely love Rollins and my brother and sister-in-law found all the resources there were excellent for student success.

And being from Missouri, the kids truly enjoyed the lack of winter!

We have a very close friend who just completed his freshman year as a Cornell Scholar and he LOVED it. Lots of challenge, but TONS of perks too. He has fabulous mentors, preferred housing, and seemingly preferred EVERYTHING. And, he worked his tail off in high school…the work is hardly more challenging at Rollins. Your Daughter will be very happy. Congrats!!

cptofthehouse - D also really likes Rollins, we just knew that we would never be able to afford it without the Cornell award and so she concentrated all her efforts on Stetson. We have spoken to other Cornell students and they have told us that the GPA has never been an issue for anyone considered good enough to be given the award. The Cornell Scholars are extremely well supported by everyone at Rollins.

Gibson1514 - thanks for your good wishes.

SweetTea - On this visit for the first time D saw the theater and was very impressed. A lady showed her around who made her feel extremely welcome. D is interested in theater, although she doesn’t know yet whether it will be as a minor or just a hobby. She is looking to major in Marine Biology, so she sounds like a mix of both of your kids. I’m sure I will be in touch. : )

Olderwiserwoman - Can you explain where the Tars originated from?

Bibbist - yes the Cornell scholars are extremely well supported and given lots of perks on campus. She also worked her tail off in HS and sees this as a wonderful reward for all her hard work.

Origin of Tar, one of the most unusual college mascots.

[What is a Tar?](http://www.rollins.edu/pr/media/Kit/Tar.html)

Thanks for that - being British I had heard of the Tars and knew the connection to the Navy but didn’t know how Rollins came to have that as their mascot.
