College Class 2018

I start my first day of classes tomorrow – two classes. In by 9:30AM, out by 11:30AM. No complaints here, lol. They’re both massive lectures, though. One has about 200 people, and the other has around 400.

First class today after a week long orientation. Love being in a small college the class of 2018 is 134 people! Each class has 25-30 people and you have a TA session each week,for all the subjects, in which there are 10-15 people. ideal class sizes for me

Got to college 5 days ago and this is the first chance I’ve had to get on CC. It’s everything I expected and more. Classes start Wednesday, gotta get rest because the first week is really crazy

I don’t know if I like small classes or big classes - each have their pros and cons in my mind. I have two small classes; one is 20 kids, the other is 15, and then two huge lectures and a mid sized lecture of about 60. I thought initially that I’d like bigger lectures because less participation so I can just zone into the lecture and take notes/do my own thing. But then again, I might also like smaller classes because of the more personalized attention from the professor.

We shall see.

My school is having welcome events for the first 2 weeks of school. The last one is Wednesday with a student org fair + carnival games style plaza event.

How’s everyone liking college?

@Vctory -
I really like it. I just need to get entirely acclimated (i.e. stop getting lost on my way to science) and normalize my sleeping schedule.

I’m liking it more than I thought I would. Made some nice friends and my classes seem cool too. I signed up for some clubs at Club Expo a few days ago too

I honestly love it.

Is it just because it’s the start of the semester or is the workload in college overrated? Everybody including me has so much free time for all these clubs, activities, and just chilling; it feels way different to high school. Even in AP classes we’d have so much busy-work it just made the workload stupid. Meanwhile in college I’m doing 2 week assignments in one night a week before it’s due & getting As on everything.

My friend in CC is loaded down with assignments like its high school & we started at the same time.

@teenbodybuilder‌ - When’s the add/drop deadline at your school? I was thinking that maybe the workload wasn’t too intense in some of my classes because people might still potentially add the class so they wouldn’t come in too far behind but I’m not sure.

September 1st - September 6th.

Though it isn’t really add/drop. It’s more like join1of100peopleonwaitlistfor2spots/drop.

I switched my Chem class to the better professor’s class as soon as it opened at 9am. Checked back later and there were like 50 people on the wait list.

Yeah, I’m really liking college so far! I also like exploring the surrounding city and taking public transportation, which I haven’t really done before…it makes me feel more grown-up, haha.

I think everything will be all right in the end, but I’m feeling kind of angsty right now. b-( This semester I started out taking six classes (19 credit hours), five at my university and one through cross-registration somewhere else. One of my classes was a graduate abstract algebra course with homework due every Friday, and I dropped it at like 2:00 this morning because there were several problems I couldn’t solve and I knew it was only going to get worse. On one hand it’s all right because I have three more chances to take that course, but on the other hand I kind of feel bad because I probably have an underachieving schedule now.

I’m feeling the same way @teenbodybuilder‌. Mock trial’s taking up a lot of time though; it’s so much different than the high school version. The case is 120+ pages, and they gave me two days to read it and write an opening to memorize and deliver next week…

Thinking about adding another class or two given the light workload. Anyone else doing the same?

I’m gonna get my EMT certification next semester and join the Georgetown Ambulance/EMT crew. That and being an RA will be my main activities aside from pre-med club, medical-related stuff, and lifting.

I’m trying to get onto the dance team, but I’m also looking to get into some science-y activities so my free time is a bit more productive

One facebook picture (very innocent btw) and my mother thinks I’m joining cults and having sex. I think I’m going to block her.

Considering some of you guys just started, this might sound weird (I moved in on the 16th, classes on the 20th), but do any of you have parents’ weekends coming up? Vandy’s is this weekend, and I’m not gonna lie, pretty excited! Not that I’m not loving college, but I was kind of a balancer between momma’s and daddy’s girl, so I just want to see them both and get hugs!

@teenbodybuilder‌
they give you so much free time because they want you to study on your own. Trust me I felt like there was a ton of free time a month ago, but now that I have four exams next week, I can’t get enough time. You can also make your schedule busier by taking higher level courses or joining more clubs or just hanging out with friends to unwind.
