I know that my high school does not weigh any classes that I take at a college but the counseler told me that some colleges will weight classes at a college while in high school. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks for your replies

Hi,
I plan on attending to University of Florida and I read on their website that they WEIGHT their gpa. (I think they weight it as an honors course)

It depends on the class that you take at your local college. If it is TRANSFERRABLE to your specified college, then yes I do believe you'll receive extra GPA on your COLLEGE GPA, but not your school district GPA.

thanks for the reply. I am taking World History and Biology. I was going to be taking the AP class at my school but taking these at the college allows me to take other science classes at high school and reach other AP classes more quickly.

The smartest thing to do with college classes is send them on a seperate transcript and not factor them into your GPA. I've taken 5 communty college classes so I'm sending 2 transcripts, one from my high school and one from the local community college. It looks much more impressive that way because it will emphasize the fact that you went out of your way to take college classes and such.

Okay but it depends on whether you want/need those credits on your hs transcript. My son took three CC classes while in high school. One was in summer at CC, other two were offered concurrent with hs...in other words, they showed on his CC transcript and on his high school transcript. HS weighted the grades and counted them as more credits so really boosted his gpa...Sent his college for fall both transcripts and the CC course descriptions so they can evaluate, transfer credits.
The World History is probably a graduation requirement for hs? so it has to be on hs transcript...each school handles differently. Check with your HS...in my son's experience one of the best things he did...got experience with college professors who don't hold your hand and got the weighted gpa....

strongly agree with ebeee..... most of time the college classes are concurrent, and they will appear on the HS and the college transcript.... it really boosts the hs gpa - here in oklahoma college classes are weighted like ap classes
