<p>It would have been more awkward, I think, if the e-mail had read something like, “This kid doesn’t impress me, but give him a shot anyway and arrange a visit.” </p>

<p>He ended up getting waitlisted at that school. Accepted at 9 others, rejected at one. But then he fell ill and ended up coming home and going to our tiny local school. So you never know what life is going to bring!</p>
