College Color Guard/Winter Guard

Out of curiosity - does anyone have first hand knowledge about Color Guard at the college level? Looking for schools in the mid-west that have a strong band/football tradition with color guard. If anyone has first hand knowledge - can you share the good and the bad about being involved at that level?
D is interested in psychology at the undergrad level. A-B student with some honors classes. Hasn't taken the ACT yet - but assume she'll fall in the 'average' range. In the process of lining up some college visits this year and thought we would add that into the 'criteria' to try and narrow down the search a bit. Thanks!

Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois all have superb psychology departments to go along with their football/band traditions. These may be reaches if her ACT does turn out to be average. I don’t know about color guard, but you can easily find out about that from their band pages.

I’ll throw a couple out there to consider, but most ‘big state’ schools will have some pretty decent color guards, although I’m not as sure about Winter guard.

For a small school experience, McKendree in Lebanon, IL has a great band and color guard - Their Color Guard, Avidity, competes in WGI each year.

Missouri State is mid-sized and also has an incredible band and color guard that competes in Winter contests.

Vanderbilt would be a larger school that comes to mind with a strong color guard system.

Just a few to add to your list.

Thanks for the information! I wonder how competitive it is? D has some dance background and enjoys high school CG - but don’t know how she would stack up against a strong CG program. I’m not very good with the ‘lingo’ - but is there a basic number of tosses they can do to catch a rifle or flag, etc?
