College Comparison V: Six-Year Graduation Rates

In order to assist some in their college search process, I have prepared a series of threads that will compare colleges on a variety of measurements. In making these comparisons, I have created three broad groups (private national universities, public national universities and liberal arts colleges) and provide comparisons involving 117 colleges (national universities ranked in the USNWR Top 75 and LACs ranked in the USNWR Top 40).

Following is a comparison on SIX-YEAR GRADUATION RATES. To aid in the comparisons, I have included the level of the highest-ranking public universities with each of the private groups for National Universities and LACs. This should help families appreciate the way that the very top scoring public compares with their private competition.

I hope that you enjoy the thread and find some helpful information. Good luck to all in your college search process!

Ohio State University 6-year graduation rate hits record

Published: Tuesday, November 02, 2010, 10:01 AM

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State University says a record 78 percent of its students are now graduating within six years.

Officials say the university has hit the new high mark by being more selective and attracting students who are better prepared for college.

The six-year graduation rate is viewed nationally as a key benchmark for universities.

The Columbus Dispatch reports numbers released Monday show that Ohio State’s four-year graduation rate also has increased this year, to nearly 53 percent.

University Provost Joseph Alutto says his goal is for 85 percent of students to graduate within four years and to have virtually all receive their diplomas within six years.

Still about 10% behind our benchmark universities, but TOSU continues to make progress!! Roughly 5% increase in one year based on hawkette’s data!! After all, USNWR awards 20% to “Retention & Graduation.” Go Bucks!! :)

OSU commencement: Number of grads breaks record

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Education news

Traffic could be congested around Ohio State University today as more than 9,500 students are eligible to participate in spring commencement.

The graduation ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11a.m. in Ohio Stadium. It’s expected to last about three hours, said Amy Murray, an OSU spokeswoman. The stadium opens at 10 a.m.

The number of graduates is a record this year, with more than 1,000 more than last spring, Murray said. Including family and friends, the crowd is expected to number about 50,000, which is about half the usual attendance for a football game.

I think TOSU will surge into the Top-50 this year if not next year the latest since USNWR uses older data for its up and coming ranking. Fingers crossed!! ;p

Go Bucks!! lol
