Just thought I'd throw that out there...

I was just on the chance forum and I want to go cry in a corner.

Just thought I'd throw that out there...

I was just on the chance forum and I want to go cry in a corner.

welcome to reality, it bites.

tell me about it sister.

Want me to make it all better? :)

That’s why I stopped reading those threads ;)

Are the “Chance Me” threads really useful if all they’re used for is for some kids to boast their high GPA’s/extracurricular activities/AP or SAT or ACT scores/awards?

Which is why you put them down by saying that all of their schools are reaches lololol

I’ve been refraining from viewing chance threads as well. They solely attribute unnecessary stress.

^^I don’t believe so.

I think most of the chance threads are created by insecure and low self esteemed ppl. They just post their stats to try to show off.
Anyway I don’t look at them anymore, most people who chance them are just like you and me. I look at the actual results threads.

I am quite sure that the chance threads are of no value. Most of the postings are rehashing of available data and wild speculation by folks with very little actual information. If you have a good college counselor at your school, talk to them. If your school uses Naviance, look at that. Otherwise,Peterson, Fiske and college websites will give you as much as you can reliably find.
Everyone should have a safe school that they like. Everyone should assume that the most elite schools are at best a reach.

[Reading applicant stats on College Confidential is seriously depressing](<a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up)

^That post made my day. Lmao! :D

If I had been on this site before late senior year I’d be sad too, don’t worry about the stats of CC kids and apply to schools you want/schools you like/and a back up you also like.

Don’t feel put down, in the end, what’s written at what the admissions officers think can turn out different.
All I’ve learnt is that…
a) there are a lot of ambitious overachievers in the world
b) some ■■■■■■ have too much time on their hands

If you want to know what your approximate chances are for getting into a school, meet with your counselor. He or she likely has years of experience with meeting with adcoms and knowing what schools want from applicants. It is a rough guess, though, because the admissions committee is always unpredictable.

I was just in that forum.

I find it surprising that many individuals really pad their resume. More so than the typical padding as well. I really can’t see how participating in specific fundraisers and such for only one year are resume worthy. I’ve participated in a few, but I don’t think I’d include that on my resume. It really adds to the whole idea that the applicant participated in whatever was out there instead of showing passion about specific subjects.

Oddly enough, that forum actually comforts me. Everything but the test scores. Though, I’m only a sophomore so what do I know?

I don’t think the truely stellar applicants bother posting chance threads. The people that do are usually insecure and uninformed.

^ fact. 10char

True. Chance threads are worthless.

The irony being that 99% of the people in the Chances forum would kill for the numbers the people in that facebook group have.

But most of them don’t have high GPA’s etc. It’s a great place to boost your post count.
