College Confidential on urban dictionary

You need to take into account that those "chance" threads started by OPs with 2000+ SAT scores are usually for top schools -- the most selective, the most competitve. For a school like Harvard, where the middle of the middle 50% of applicants have around a 2230 (source: College Board), a 2000 just might be "below average." So I don't think those OPs are necessarily being "ignorant" or "conceited" (to quote Unoriginal) -- they're just being realistic. (This is subjective.) A school like Harvard or Brown IS hard to get accepted to. And the majority of applicants do have pretty high SAT scores. That's not subjective; that's fact.

I'm not saying that every poster with a 2000+ SAT score who calls his/herself "below average" isn't being ignorant or conceited. Trust me, I've come across people who have definitely given me that impression. But I am saying that before you accuse those posters of being x or y, just take a look at the context of what they're saying. That's all.

lulz, that's us :)

I agree with the last guy except for his use of the word "faggot..." I hate that people who complain about racism go right out there and use disgusting homophobic slurs, but whatever.

Okay, saying that average scores are like.. acceptable.. or whatever is RIDICULOUS. That's like saying that the AVERAGE weight of an American is healthy. Srsly?!?!

1500 SAT's are acceptable to the typical student, but not to people on here. Not to you, or me, or 95% of the other people on here. Everything's relative.

^Even if I was a "typical"/average/whatever student, I would be embarrassed by a 1500 on the SAT.

If I'm not mistaken, the scores are recalibrated from time to time to keep them "average". That makes it quite a different measure then "average" weight. I agree that some posters might be "calibrated" to a CC average, but some of us end up here by way of an innocent search on google, and don't know/think it's just a place for folks looking for entry into "top" schools. I think this especially applies to the parents here. You are probably more likely to find parents of "average" kids on CC, than you are "average" kids.

Ooops! I just noticed this was under high school life! Peace out!

Offended by this? Oh man, I have nothing to say...

This is hilarious and true.

When someone posts that a 2000 on the SAT is a low score in general, or that they don't think can get into college with said score, that's just being ridiculous, the same way asking to retake a 2200+ is ridiculous. Even relative to top schools, one shouldn't consider himself or herself "below average" for a 2100 or 2200 score; it means you're just as competitive as you should be.

And INVENIAMVIAM, no offense, but I guess you just don't understand what it means to be average; obviously by your SAT scores, courseload, and GPA, you're fairly talented. But imagine you were the paragon of the average student, would you really be embarrassed with a 1500? You say yes now, because you haven't been in the situation, but then again, neither have I (my scores are close to a 1500 though, lawl, but the fact remains that average to many American students does not mean 2000+ on the SAT.

-- ^Even if I was a "typical"/average/whatever student, I would be embarrassed by a 1500 on the SAT. --

True story: I got a 1480 on my last SAT's even though I have a 3.9 GPA at a private high school.

The SAT doesn't test anything, and I just got bored halfway through it and gave up. I'll do better next time though as I'm taking practice tests and actually trying and I get in the 1900's-ish, and I havn't even taken Alg. II yet.

..........................

^lol, well I guess I don't!

Eh, if you had read my other posts about the SAT you would already know that I completely agree with you. I was trying to say that personally I would be embarrassed by a 1500 because I know that I'm better AT WHAT THE SAT TESTS than that - and yeah, it does test something, just nothing really tangible or related to real life, lol. And hmm I guess if I was "average" I suppose 1500 would be fine, ehhh.

There's nothing ridiculous about wanting to improve a score that you yourself are not satisfied with. No one should ever, ever settle for something that they honestly believe they can do better on. Including SAT scores.

The third one is right on the dot.

"Oh mannnnnnnnnn I got a 2390 on my SATs! And only have a 5.6/4.0.GPA. Help! Will I still get into (insert Ivy). I did over 9 clubs, 10 sports every year blah blah blah"

Haha, this is so hilarious, I almost died when it said how we all whine about AA and snitch on our classmates.

I have done both, though I spend more time criticizing people who do those things that actually do them myself.

Haha, that was pretty funny. Not every person here is a genius, though. And it all depends on the person. As its been pointed out, some of these people saying that they have "low" 2100 scores, are applying to schools where that is below average. But then again, you do have people who come on here and fit some of those stereotypes perfectly.

Just to prove not everyone on here is a snobby nerd who is obsessed with going to the Ivies, I have a 1820 on the SAT, a 26 on the ACT, and.... ok, I do have a 4.5 GPA.... but I'm only applying to ONE top 50 school. And yes, I know that even my scores are well above average, but I'm not on my way to Harvard or anything and I don't sit around and brag about my achievements.

However, I do find it ironic that they are bashing all of these "nerds" here on CC..... yet, they're taking their time to bash an internet forum online.....?

Lawlz. These Urban Dictionary threads always end the same way.

With a nuclear holocaust.

The definitions are sadly accurate.

1 and 2 were funny, #3 is hypocritical and obnoxious.

(and my grades suck and im not white)

After spending time on here I have learned that

Most of the stats a lot of the people post are made up

It is full of parents crying about the fact that their kids did not get into Harvard and as a result they discourage other kids from trying out

Come on now, if someone had the top grades, top SATs and top class ranks they would be doing something other than worrying about getting into Harvard and asking a bunch of strangers on the internet about their chances

Basically, it is all a waste of time, I come on here to look at some of the SAT threads because those are helpful, I am done with the college chances threads.

Plus you get extra credit if you downgrade yourself, a student saying

“OMG I HAVE A 4.0 GPA AND A 2400 SAT SCORE I WON’T GET INTO HARVARD SOMEONE HELP!”

would get more credit than someone who says

“I have a 4.0 GPA and a 2400 SAT score, looking to get accepted into Harvard”

Hahahaha, I find urban dictionary to be the best site… it truly sums up this board. I seriously was worried after looking on here because these people are crazy, then I thought about it and realized that the people on here are probably in the top 99% of the population… so I didn’t feel so bad.

I have actually seen posts that are similar to the examples they posted on there too… too good, too good.
