College Confidential Relaunch

The header has way too much white space and the font is too small. Your Logo should be much bigger if it is going to be centered. Personally thing it should be to the left. The mortorboard default avatar is visually distracting and feels like a a black hole…(alright a blue hole). But the font size is the biggest issue IMO…way too small for my old lady eyes.

Are you on a phone, tablet, or computer?

Y’all know on a computer you can easily set the text size, right? I use firefox, you hold down the ctrl key and use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. I have mine set to 110%, and it remembers it for this site. Pretty sure the other browsers allow this as well.

The font size hasn’t changed on my phone (android, AdBlock browser), as far as I can tell.

I enlarge the font on my laptop anyway. To me, it’s not so much the size of that notification tab, it’s the resolution as well. It just doesn’t appear as crisp and clear to my eye. Even the font of the words in the header aren’t as easy to read. Not sure if it is the font used or the resolution but it’s not an improvement over the old version.

Yes, agree the fonts up top (eg, Community Forums,) should at least be the size of text in posts. Maybe bold.
I suspect a large number of us use phones.
Yes, move the logo left. I get branding, but not at the expense of usability.

Well, I just changed back to “actual size” and the logo IS on the left. Looks much better. For some reason though, if you zoom in even a little it changes it to the logo in the middle. The font is much too small to not zoom in, IMO.

^I just changed my zoom to 90% (chrome on Macbook) and the logo moved to the left. But now the post font is so small it hurts. I tried changing Chrome font size and that had no effect. Back to 100% zoom…and the logo is back to the middle.

Is it just me who thinks that the big photo on the homepage with a leg, a backpack and some bricks is really ugly?

On my phone, changing enlarge % didn’t do anything to the header.

At a certain window width, it decides that everything can’t fit on one row, and instead puts the header stuff in three (!) rows. For me that’s at around 1400 pixels wide on my 1920 pixel-wide monitor, at the 110% zoom factor I use.

If you can, try making your window wider to see if that makes a difference.

Unfortunately at this width it leaves huge white bands down the sides, because the text fields are fixed width and don’t adjust when you change the window size. It’s not optimal.

^Not optimal :). Unfortunately, my window is already the width of my screen.

Mine is full screen already. Old CC, the header didn’t reconfigure if you zoomed in a little. Sounds like it just needs to be tweaked.

Isn’t that wide white margin on the left where the ads appear? So if you have an ad blocker (I do), you would have nothing to fill that space.

^ The side ads appear between the “Top Forums” list and the “Featured threads” list. There is a band of white to the left of that.

But the top forums, ad, and featured threads only take up a small portion of the page at the top when there are a lot of replies on a page. So when I scroll to the bottom, over 40% of the page width is white space.

Is there a way now to bookmark a particular forum? I’ve been waiting for that since the last relaunch.

Well, I’ll say the appearance is much better on my tablet.

But I’ve got a bluetooth keypad the tablet sits in, horizontally. When I pull up a new page, the forst post starts at the botton inch of the screen. Ugh.

This is why great design projects include designers, not just experienced software folks.

Oh my, I’m not seeing anywhere near that amount of white margin… only about 23% on the left after scrolling down below the “Featured Threads”

Re: 45

Maybe that was it – trying to edit after 15 mins. I have since been able to edit posts.

Thanks for checking.

Wonder if there was a website accessibility expert involved? Still have no search function on the phone unless I switch to full site.

The symbols for notifications and messages are ridiculously small in a sea of white space. Some of us here are age-challenged.

@twinsmama Some of us that are closer in age to the twins have trouble seeing it.
