Was any thought put in to banning “chance me” threads in the new version? IMO, they’re problematic, they’re toxic, they’re deceiving, and almost everyone agrees that they are the worst part of CC.
Agreeing—strongly!—with @STEM2017. And the fact that one counterargument I hear occasionally when the idea of banning them comes up is that that’s part of CC’s “branding”, well, then maybe it’s time to at least start moving the branding away from such harmful inanities.
Lol. Maybe they get rid of all the threads that link a headline from news sources, legit or sensationalist.
Smart folks, parents of the college-bound, shouldn’t be getting their news from a big college forum.
And distinguish among high school kids, college kids and adults in their avatar or username. Maybe by colors. I get tired of looking up some authority, only to find he/she is in 8th or 9th. LOL.
LOL we’ll take your recommendations into consideration LOL
@lookingforward I agree distinguishing between high schoolers, college students, middle schoolers (?!?) and adults would help. It’s odd when the blind lead the blind in college advice. But then again all advice on the internet should be taken with a grain of salt to begin with.
^^This. Or at the very least make it available as soon as you click the persons profile. Would also be helpful to (optionally) add where you attend/attended to your profile to make it helpful for people that want information about specific schools.
I’m beginning to warm up to the idea that users need to be identified in order to better serve the College Confidential community… myself being a 2nd semester HS senior…
I can see getting a lot of reports claiming people aren’t who they claim to be…
Exactly. It’s not like everyone will choose to be honest.
It’s an anonymous message board and free advice. Caveat emptor.
I guess the second part to my point didn’t post properly; here it is:
BUT there will still be those who lie about who they truly are… might as well not have any designations then…
IIRC earlier versions of this BB had the option of putting age, sex, location under one’s avatar. And in the classic CC, it shared email addresses!!
Age, gender, location is probably a better way to phrase that. Might minimize any sarcastic comments about “sex, location”
Age? Not going there for people well out of college. Lol. And for anyone, age and status change. Next year, you’re older and may have transitioned from hs to college. Someone would need to keep up with these changes.
So ok, maybe not feasible.
Perhaps just categories: HS/College student or Parent/Gaurdian?
Hate the logo…my 2 cents. If I can’t figure it out in a glance, it is no good.
I’m just noticing some posters have a desination as “Forum Champion.” New?
@lookingforward - http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/community-forum-issues/2041572-announcing-a-new-role-on-college-confidential-the-forum-champion.html#latest
I don’t think CC will add roles to people’s profiles. It’s too easy for people to be deceitful about who they are, and the site doesn’t want to be held accountable for that.
Thanks, ML. When I clicked the blue banner above, it brings me to this thread.
this has likely already been mentioned but it not – i’d like to see the ability to stay logged in. the login here is the least sticky that I’ve seen…literally only hours between usages, I have to log in again. thanks!
My log in lasts on my desktop, but doesn’t on my phone. I agree, it’s annoying, especially when you have a long user name!
