I am currently a first year at UCSB as a econ major. I have been asking current students and professors about the major and I don't like how the coursework is mostly theoretical and am seriously considering switching schools. My goals are to gain skills needed to run my own small business not to be in the big 4 as some analyst. The school I would most likely transfer to would be San Diego State University as they offer a myriad of seemingly more practical degrees that I believe I would enjoy with a good reputation. Maybe there are some other private universities that I have not yet discovered that would be a perfect match. UCB seems like a good fit as they have the business management degree but we all know the slim chances on getting in there. Maybe I should go to CC(not to mention its bargain price, UC's are a ripoff) which would give me some time to think about schools, although I have already taken 10 units there with a gpa of around 3.0 which would effect my transfer choices. But on the other hand I would be dropping an opportunity to study at a UC that I may not be able to get into again. I am very confused with this whole college thing, never thought it was going to be so complicated and frustrating. Hopefully I will figure this out. Thanks to anyone who provides me with a response.

You can also consider Cal Poly SLO for business.

I originally planned on going there, I was rejected. Any other pieces of advice?

If u want to learn how to run ur own business, dont do econ. switch ur major to business administration…or major in entrepreneurship.

I would take business law as well as financial and managerial accounting.

Would you be able to make any recommendations on when I should start applying for transfer? Should I got to a CC and transfer from there?
