College Cost vs Financial Aid

I was searching for colleges in collegeboard.com on the basis of Cost and Financial Aid.(I am an International Student). What I mostly found is, let's say, college A has cost $50,000 and aid $32,000. So I have to pay $about $18,000. Again, college B has cost $30,000 and aid $12,000. So I have to pay $18,000 still. This makes me bewildered. I hope you got that. I am not sure what to ask with you all, but, I want to know some colleges that I need to pay less.

I don’t know much about international students. You will have to check with the individual schools to see if you are eligible for aid. But I think what you are describing are schools that have said they will meet all need. So if you do your family contribution calculation and your family can afford to contribute $18,000 then any of these schools will give you aid up to the amount of your need. So you will always be expected to pay $18,000, no matter what the actual cost is. Of course, many colleges will not meet need, and others will give merit scholarships that have nothing to do with need. To get a merit scholarship, you need to apply to schools that you are overqualified for.
