College Course Overload

Hey CC'ers,

I'll be a frosh this fall and i'm taking more classes than the majority of my fellow frosh's. I tested out of a few classes and i'm a tad bit above the standards of the school. I'm not trying to sound conceited, the school told me so themselves. I'm going there because the price is great, I got tons of scholarships and whatnot, but that's besides the point.

I fear that I may be taking to many classes as a freshman. However, I'm an English major and English is pretty easy for me.

Here's my schedule

Bio with a lab
Intro to mass media
Intro to lit
intro to public pol
Honors:Logic
Creative writing

I feel as if that's an okay amount, my parents think that it's good as well. I'll be taking 18 credits, however, most of my peers are taking no more than 13.

Is this okay? My classes seem fairly simple. Most of them are level 210 or higher. I'll be taking many classes with sophomores, but i'm okay with that.

What do you guys think? I was warned to not take on so much as newb. I'll be playing a sport, i'm in the honors program, I might even become a double major (poli-sci (pre-law) and English), and I plan to be an active member of my school. Am I taking more than I can handle?

Thanks for the help.

Drop a class. You’ve got 7 classes which is way too much for a freshman.

Unrelated to the schedule: if you go into school saying/thinking you’re better than everyone else, things won’t go well.

Outside of that, I’d look at dropping 1 class and going to 15 credit hours. Classes in college take more time than in HS. Your bio lab is likely going to have 2-3 lectures a week (meaning 2-3 hours) + a 2-3 hour lab, and your other 5 classes will likely be either 1 or 1.5 hours/lecture. Doing the math, at minimum you’re looking at ~20 hours a week in class. Not to mention homework and reading, especially since most of those classes are humanities based. You’re also playing a sport

Bottom line: drop a class or 2

soccergurl7988, It’s really not me saying this. The person who made my schedule said that to my face and announced it to the entire frosh class, i’m just thanking God that he did not say my name. I really don’t want anything to make me different than the rest of my peers, honestly.

Thanks for the advice. I need to keep bio it’s my one true frosh class, i’ll think about dropping another course though…
