Will i get credit for college for courses that i take outside of school?

i know that i can get college credit for receiving high marks on AP exams. can i get credit for TAKING the courses, or will i have to take the AP exams to receive that credit?

thanks :)

i think you have to take the exams to get credit.

but even taking the exams won't excempt you from taking the actual course from college.

it really depends on the school.

It really does depend on where you go to college. To be clear, just taking the course won't ever get you credit. However, at some schools, even taking the exam won't get you credit (e.g., the Ivies, along with most private schools).

hahaha thanks. i was talking about taking college courses. i thought college courses = college courses i'd take later on. i guess not? :)

leeyuri, each college has a different set of rules. Schools like MIT or Caltech for example do not give credit automatically for college courses taken. My son is a high school senior and he's now completed 3 math courses at UC Berkeley. Next year he'll be at Caltech. He has to take all their placement exams. No credit automatically given for previous college courses. He has to bring with him copies of the course descriptions and talk to the faculty at Caltech. Maybe he'll get to skip some math classes at Caltech & maybe not. I believe the same is true for transfer students, not all classes transfer.

But it still looks good to take college courses during high school righT? Like at least you challenged yourself and went the extra step to take more academics . . at least thats what I hope . .
