I got a 35 on the english portion on the ACT and someone told me I could get college credit for that score. Is this true? I'm taking AP English next year, would that mean I get double english credits?

Happy New Year everyone!!

Never heard of such a thing. I don’t believe this is true, and if it is, it probably wouldn’t be at a 4 year university.

Some colleges place ACT restrictions on certain classes - e.g. you must have above X score to take X class. But no, you can’t get college credit for an ACT score. That would be ridiculous!

Quoted from FSU’s website:
"SAT & ACT

Students may earn credit for Freshman Composition and Rhetoric (ENC 1101) by earning a 650 on the verbal portion of the SAT or a 29 on the English section of the ACT. ENC 1101 is the first of two semesters of a required Liberal Studies sequence.*

Students who score a 680 on the mathematics portion of the SAT or a 30 on that section of the ACT earn credit for College Algebra (MAC 1105). This course fulfills three of the six hours of the Liberal Studies mathematics requirement.*

Duplicate credit does not apply."

Most colleges I know of only place you in more advanced classes for high scores on the SAT or ACT, but don’t give you credit for the lower level classes (e.g. they might allow you to skip algebra and go to precalclus or something with a high math score but not give you credit for algebra). Apparently, some, like FSU, do give credit, as Pistolen08 mentioned.

A lot of state schools will give you credit.

LSU, FSU, etc.

Yeah you can actually get credit for an act english score usually in the form of back credit…if you take a higher level course and scored a score of x or higher you get credit for all the classes underneath the class you are taking

Hmm, interesting. I assume that they wouldn’t give you additional credit if you took AP though.
