College Debt

@twoinanddone
They must’ve affluent to have their kids attend Boulder with Ca residency. Even if I had that kind of money lying around, I would have a hard time paying twice as much for Boulder than Colorado Springs (WUE).

While WUE is nice, it isn’t automatic at every school and can be limited to majors or the number of kids.

UCCS is not Boulder. Colorado Springs is quite conservative and not the right environment for a lot of students, and Boulder is very liberal and not the right environment for others. Boulder has big time D1 sports.

The school my kids attended in California was very mixed financially, but most went to the college they wanted to without worrying about the cost. Even some who received sports scholarships could have gone to college 10x over without worrying about the cost.

If most did not have to worry about college costs, then “mixed financially” would seem to include a mix of students from families at the upper edge of upper middle class to students from even wealthier families.

There were some on financial assistance in high school (including mine), but there were many very wealthy kids (or very wealthy parents or grandparents). There were plenty of KIDS driving jags and Land Rovers to school. Yes, I’d say most were above middle class and paying for CU tuition wouldn’t be a problem. There were also about 40 boarding students from Asia, and they seemed to be able to pick whichever US colleges they wanted to go to too. Lots of money.

so many great insights above.

I will let you in on a little secret - COLLEGE DEBT IS A TRAP! Especially here in CA and for for undergrad degrees.
