College decision: Ivies vs. others

My D got accepted to Brown, Cornell, JHU, UVA (OOS) and UNC (OOS). No money from any of them. U Miami gave good merit money. UF free. D does not want to go to school in FL. Not eligible for FA. We can pay the entire bill but it will be a stretch. Also have a another child 2 years younger. D does not know what she wants to do in life. Likes math and foreign languages. Expect her to change her major several times in college. Any advice about the schools, are the schools worth the cost?
Also did visit some schools and have a couple more to visit but D is very reserved, concerned about money and hasn't said that one particular school was "it" for her.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Depends on how much she hates Florida. If, say, you give her 25k dollars a year (for her own private use) if she goes to UF (still cheaper than the ivies), would she still be unhappy?

My personal opinion is that the ivies don’t give you 200k more worth of fun (And I go to Cornell), but it depends on your finances.

Only two of the accepted schools (Cornell and Brown) are in the Ivy League. There is no appreciable difference between the Ivy League, which technically is just an athletic conference. I don’t think there is an appreciable difference difference between competitive private schools that are in the Ivy League and those that aren’t, like JHU or even some top publics like UVA. It depends what you do with your education. An excellent education can even be gotten at the Florida schools. I’m wondering why she even applied to the Florida schools if she didn’t want to stay in Florida.

The answer to your question is, “what price do you want to pay for your daughter’s happiness?” Because that’s really what you’re asking. No one here can answer that for you.
