College decisions have started this month and about 3 weeks ago, my house was on fire and in the fire I burned my leg, where I was hospitalized for 2.5 weeks and needed surgery. In the meanwhile, school is still in session. I have really fallen behind in all my classes and one of my teacher wants me to drop the class with W before the deadline. also another made a note of it. Im taking 3 classes, all my books are gone and my computer. another family member was also injured so my attention hasn’t been at school. What should I do? getting a W now would really suck, should I take the W rather than getting bad grade. If I write the reason for my grade, would they even consider it? I don’t even feel like going to college anymore!
Talk to the dean of student affairs and see what it takes to get a medical leave of absence and drop all your classes. You will have to make them up over the summer, but you really need to take care of yourself and your family right now. It will all get back on track. You need the time right now.
You have never been through something like this- you need to process it. The schools have seen it all before and will know what to do. They have procedures and will be compassionate. Ask the Dean for Student Affairs for help. It will work out.
Take care!
Worst case may be delaying transferring, or making up the classes at the university. It WILL work out!
