College decisions?!?! :/

So i am so confused on which school to decide on between ucsd, sdsu and usd. I have positives and negatives for each school so i don't know which to choose. I am majoring in biochemistry.

Btw: i applied to schools outside of san diego but i would love to go to a school in san diego.

SDSU:
Positives- i am accepted in the honor society and i am a presidential scholar.
- easier to get a high GPA
Negatives- not as prestigious as the other two but still a good school.

UCSD:
Positives- is the third best school in the UC system
- it is known for its science and research programs
Negatives- the environment is not what i'm looking for
- may be too expensive for me
- more competition

USD:
Positives- they have given me a full ride
- it is absolutely beautiful
Negatives- sinc it is a private catholic school i dont see religion and science as a good mix

Doea anyone have any advice? I know im on the ucsd thread but please consider the other two. :)

How much of a factor is cost?

Have you visited all three?

And if the environment at UCSD isn’t what you’re looking for, why are you considering it? In fact, why did you apply? (not trying to sound rude. I’m just trying to gauge what you see in UCSD other than academics.)

Well seeing as UCSD is really good for pretty much anything bio related I would go for UCSD, I understand how it would be hard to turn down a free ride from USD and maybe honors from SDSU but the thing with SDSU is that it is a party school and so with all that distraction it may not be as easy as you think to keep a high GPA. Even if you would be able to maintain a good GPA I personally think UCSD sounds better than SDSU + Honors so i would pretty much narrow it down to UCSD and USD. I think UCSD has a better name than USD as well (may be biased) but if it comes down to you not being able to afford UCSD then I can understand the decision of going to USD, but otherwise I would settle for UCSD. Plus even though it would be harder to maintain a high GPA at UCSD I think a 3.2 there would be worth more than a 3.6 at USD. Ultimately you should go to all three campuses and see which one you like best because that should really be a big part of you decision.

Yah i’ve visited all three. I applied to ucsd mainly because at the time i only cared about how good the school was but i’ve realized now that there’s more to college than just that. I know SDSU is a “party school” but I am not the type of person who will be out partying every weekend so I’m not worried about that.

I would also like to be able to chear on my school at games and UCSD doesn’t really offer that opportunity.

Thanks for both of your advice :)

Even if you don’t party too much at SDSU, it has a reputation of being a “party school,” and unfortunately that looming perception will be there. I’m definitely not saying that SDSU is a bad school-- all the schools you listed probably have similar academics. If you prove to employers that you’re intelligent you WILL be successful, but you might need to work harder to land a job with the same pay, and that might suck later on.
A full ride sounds great. I don’t know too much about religion interfering with science since I don’t go there. I recommend you ask science majors who attend USD. I do know that science and religion can exist together in harmony.
UCSD isn’t bursting with parties, but you can find people with similar interests and have a social life here. If that’s not enough, most people are satisfied with frat life. That being said, you will have to work hard as a science major, and if you want to be pre-med it will be difficult. Also, it’s true school spirit and sports aren’t big here, although many people do enjoy it here.

Regardless of where you choose to go, everyone tells me that networking is a huge part of your future success, so I recommend looking into that. Good luck!

don’t be so quick as to jump to conclusions. i don’t know what your particular religious beliefs/tolerances are, but the involvement of religion in your studies would be limited to a handful of theology courses. if you don’t like listening to catholic dogma, then why did you apply there in the first place?

you pretty much hit all the point: the environment and academic rigors of each campus are very different. that’s pretty much all we can tell you; figuring out which campus is the best fit for you is ultimately your choice.

@ justmyluck it is such a relief to hear from someone that all three schools have the same academics. (i think i’m just tryinh to reassure myself that it’ll be ok to go to sdsu. But the more i think about it the more i lean towards ucsd.

@ astrina i am very in to my catholic religion but i dont want religion to keep me from furthering my education. For example i dont know if they do much research there where as i know for a fact ucsd and sdsu do.

All in all you are all right it’s my decision at the end i just didnt think it would be this hard. :/

If I was you (based on the pros and cons you’ve listed), I would choose USD. Obviously you should take my opinion with a grain of salt since I have no idea about the campus or school and did not apply.

If you can’t afford UCSD and don’t like the environment, it’s in your best interest not to go there. And USD is more reputable than SDSU, so a full ride to USD is hard to pass up.

I would have taken a full ride almost anywhere. Ha ha.
