College Didn't Receive My FAFSA?!?

I submitted my FAFSA on Janurary 1st and it was processed on January 2nd. I made a correction to my FAFSA on January 8th and it was processed on January 9th. Today I checked my application status for one of my schools today, and it said that they didn't receive my FAFSA.. but I submitted it a month ago!

Should I be worried and contact the school or did they receive my FAFSA and forget to update the site?

What should I do?

Yes and no. It is very possible that the schools have not yet imported the 13-14 FAFSAs into their systems - or the school hasn’t updated the info yet. However, sometimes students put the wrong school code on their FAFSA (at the large public U where I used to work, they’d put the law school or med school code instead of the main campus code). Just double-check your school codes (you can look at each school’s financial aid page on their website to find it - then double-check it against your FAFSA).

Thanks, I checked my FAFSA to make sure that it was the right code and it was.

So what do I do now?

How can you verify that a school received your forms? (sorry to ask my own question on this thread…)

My DS sent an email to his school with the same question. They replied that they don’t even look at FAFSA until the end of February or sometime in March.

Yes they don’t start looking at FAFSA until end of Febuary

Just hang in there. If the FAFSA went to the right school code, and if your Student Aid Report did not indicate that your FAFSA was rejected for some reason (that is, there is an EFC calculated), then you are fine. You will just have to wait a bit.

Thanks everyone for the help!

And @hpyscm I checked the application status/financial aid form status on the school’s website and it said it there, also most schools email you if you have missing info

Thanks! Like how do colleges know if you even signed up for finaid in the first place though?

Colleges receive all FAFSAs that are sent to them. When they have a match with a student who is in their system (usually by social security number - sometimes by name and date of birth), they will look at that student’s FAFSA. Most schools will not look until an applicant is accepted, but some may look at info for students while admissions decisions are still pending.
