I think the title is kind of self explanatory....What are the differences, similarities, what made you go in the first place? I want to be an aerospace engineering major, so im curious, cause either im missing something, or both are generally the same.

I didn't attend either WPI or RPI but I've tried to get familiar with both to determine what they can offer to my college-bound family members.

Obviously, the strong suit of both is science. However, WPI seems intent to provide a more broad undergraduate experience. Performing Arts electives are particularly strong at WPI. I guess Performing Arts are a good stress-reliever for all those equations and research experiments. LOL

While few schools rival MIT in S&T, WPI's reputation is competitive and in the northeast U.S. the schools draw from similar applicant pools.

WPI students appear to be fond of the short adcademic calendar terms and the required special student projects, many of which are completed off-campus and even abroad.

You'll mingle with graduate business students at WPI. The WPI MBA program has a strong reputation in the northeast. Incidentally, RPI students can cross-register at SUNY-Albanyb and other New York Capital District colleges.

Culturally and economically, the City of Worcester is a bit stronger than Troy, NY

RPI seems to have a better reputation for engineering and overall. Many people have not heard of WPI, but it seems like most people have heard of RPI.

Troy is very depressing. I have not been to Worcester but from what I've heard it is pretty depressing as well.

Thank you both, man, RPI would be a great package if it wasn't for the city it was in....I'll probably end up applying there anyway. And WPI...ehh, well i probaly won't apply there.

If you haven't visited WPI, you should. It is much nicer than I thought it would be (seeing as it is set in Worcester after all). RPI is my #1 though :D.
