Hi everyone! I am a rising senior and it's actually time to start this whole college process. I am having an issue deciding on what I should do in terms of finding a BA program or a BFA program. I went out to Northwestern last spring and absolutely LOVED it. And I know that they have an AMAZING theatre program (both acting and musical theatre), but....I just got back from the CAP21 Pre-College program and now I am thinking that a BFA program might be more beneficial. If I were to go to Northwestern and get a BA, when I cam out of college, would I be in the same place as people who went to top-notch BFA programs? Or would not going to a more conservatory-style program put me a disadvantage in terms of training? Any advice on this would be great!

This topic has been discussed before - you'll have to search for it, as I need to get to bed and stop searching tonight (look for BA vs. BFA, even Northwestern compared to other schools).

I believe that Northwestern's BA theatre program is in a class all its own. It seems wonderful and has many working professional graduates. Be aware that MT is based on an audition after you've been there one or two years and that not that many of the theatre students are selected to go into MT each year. If you are okay just doing the acting part, I think the program is absolutely wonderful. The university itself was one of our very favorites that we visited. I'm sure you know that academic acceptance would be harder than at many colleges.

Within BFA programs, you will find many different types of programs, some of which are strictly conservatories and others that have more liberal arts mixed into the major (your term of conservatory-style is a good way to put it). It depends on what you want!

Read the threads. People have posted much good advice.

I know that at least one boy whose mom posts here strongly considered CAP 21 but in the end decided to go to Northwestern instead. I think that she has posted info., so again, do a search.
