College Diversity Forum Excludes White Participants

<p>“The rejection of sincere members of the community is divisive and ultimately destructive.”</p>

<p>I agree. I understand the wishes for a safe and supportive meeting, but this statement isn’t conducive to one. Respectful people respect other people’s boundaries. They would not want to attend a meeting that they were not interested in, or to cause distress for the members.</p>

<p>A statement like that would not deter someone who was intent on disagreeing with or disrupting the group since that person would not consider the wishes of the group, and might show up anyway. The statement would be more effective at alienating the potentially sympathetic students who might otherwise attend.</p>

<p>There may not be so much discussion here because there appears to be consensus that the exclusionary event was a bad idea in the first place, and that it has been appropriately cancelled before anyone was able to say much here.</p>
