College Essay About Economic Difficulties?

Hello,

Before ask my question, I want to tell you my motives for this topic. First and foremost, right before my Junior year ended, the Dean of Academics at my school came up to me and strongly urged me to write about my childhood background (which implied my economic difficulties & immigration). I attend a college prep. private school, which costs about $35,000 a year. He told me that the private school accepted me and gave me a full ride because I have deserved it through hard work and that colleges should know that as well. He also told me that my close friend (attending Harvard), who had many similar stats as I do, wrote about a similar topic.

At a glance, the idea sparked great attention. I, too, believe it is a great idea to tell the colleges from my heart about how hard my childhood life was compared to the rich and spoon-fed students at my school.

Do you think this is a good idea for my essay?

I greatly appreciate your kindness!

Yes! The essay seems very personal and heartfelt. It will show your character very strongly.

I think it is a great idea. I think you should concentrate on your struggles and leave out the comparisons to the rich and spoon-fed kids that you go to school with. The Adcom Officers will be able to make those comparisons themselves when they are reading your essay after a long string of “What community service abroad for the summer has taught me about the world” themed essays by other candidates. I have a feeling that yours will stand out.
Good Luck!

I appreciate your inputs =D, I think i will start on it asap haha

If you guys have any other tips on writing the essay, I would greatly appreciate that too!
