<p>For the common app, a recommended 500-700 words. For the supplement, ~ 250.</p>

<p>Two friends of mine go to harvard, and I looked at their admissions essays for help in writing my own. Really the message to take away from them is that the essay should be about a life experience that should have next to nothing relating to your pursuits in the classroom. </p>
<p>The goal of the essay is for them to get to know you as a more substantial person as well as to assess your writing abilities. Basically just write about something, it can be as simple as the time you got sick, or how you admired how your sports rival was friendly to everyone he was competing against. </p>
<p>Just make it a polished essay, tell a story, and you will be fine.</p>
