I wrote an amazing essay this year about my grandfather. My freind goes to Harvard and I reviewed some of his freinds essays and mine was as good, if not better. My GPA is a 3.3 this year but should be around 3.5 by next year because of the AP's I will be taking. My first choices are NYU and BU. Would an essay thats better than most other essays really help me get into schools such as these?

GPA is probably not that high to get into schools like that. You're settin ur sights too high.

I averaged a 3.72 GPA and there's no way in hell I could get into NYU or BU

Weighted or unweighted?

it wouldn't matter for this person if it was weighted or unweighted. GPA ain't high enough period.

I think that with a great essay, you definitely have a shot, I know of multiple kids who got into both NYU and BU with gpas around 3.4 or so.

i doubt it. We have to know what his/her SAT's are too.

yeah but sats are kinda important too, but you never know you just might get in

It's too low if weighted, if unweighted its on the low side, but still feasible. Depends on how competative your high school is, class rank, SATs, and ECs. There are a lot of factors, although along with GPA we'd definately at least need to know class rank, competativeness of your school and SATs. Good essays can definately help, but they aren't going to make up for a completely weak application. Good Luck, and if you can give us more information we can probably give you some better answers.

Hey Krimp, apply and see what happens...no one on this board knows whether you're in or not. Good Luck!

Seriously, how can some of you people be so judgemental, I can assure that schools these days are not about the numbers anymore, or else luck of the draw gave it to me, so just go for it, good luck and I'm sure you'll end up where you want to be :)
