I know writing about religion can be controversial at times, but I have an idea relating to it and it would be great to have some feedback. I want to write about how growing up as a daughter to parents of different religions has impacted my perspective on religion as a whole. Also it has made me feel tied to and a part of various religions instead of just one (kind of like being a follower of two different religions).
Would that be alright or should I just scrap the idea?

Almost any idea is OK if done right. The riskiness of a topic is the degree of “done right” you need to accomplish to make it OK.

Some advice: Show (via specific incidents) how this affects you (vs just telling how it did). The essay itself should show a transition from something (what?? - maybe confusion with the two religions early) to a stronger, better, more tolerant you at the end (another specific incident). The essay should document the journey and show you overcoming some issue or fear or confusion you once had.

I understand that dichotomy (since my parents practice different religions as well), and I think it would make a great essay; just make it one of the best essays you have ever written, and you should be fine

Good luck.

Thanks guys!!
