So I am a rising senior and I have started writing my essay. I was wondering if you guys could tell me if my topics are good?
- essay about my bizzare dreams and how they affect the way I perceive and approach my mind + talk about the power of the human mind and how this power affects me
- topic about how I was raised in two different cultures + how this affected the way I perceived the world + how I approach situations and how I think based on being raised on two different cultures + how I have developed my own culture
- another topic about how in the shower I become vulnerable and what my mind goes through
These are just basic outlines of my essay topics and wondering if you guys think they would be good enough. Please let me know on how to make them better and which one sound like my best chance. Thanks!
Please know the personal statement isn’t like an essay for high school teachers who know you. The topic needs to be relevant to an admit review and show the attributes the college likes and wants.
I don’t see how shower issues show you college ready. Bringing up bizarre dreams can be very risky. And sorry, but the dual culture thing is done a lot and you’d need the right angle that makes this an asset- and all of this, for any topic, is supposed to make use of, “Show, not just tell.”
Find a nice narrative that, through the telling, shows strengths the college are interested in.
- any topic that includes the word "bizarre" is probably not your best choice.
- Likewise, I really don't want you to "show me" what happens in your shower. A) I'm a happily married woman. B) You're a minor and getting me arrested won't give me any credibility in my high school classrooms, lol.
Play with the prompts. Think of the stories that you and your friends will reminisce about at your 20th reunions, and the stories about you that come up over coffee and dessert on Thanksgiving. See how they show you as a person who has experienced growth.
