<p>One of my application essay prompt requires me to write an essay of about 300 words but my final draft essay has 406 words. Will this hurt? Should I cut more words out? (I really don't feel like there is anything to delete now).</p>

<p>100 words is stretching it, at the most 30 AT THE MOST.</p>
<p>It will hurt a lot. Colleges set an amount of words to limit you to because they want to see if you can write concise, terse statements as well as elongated free-flowing essays.</p>
