College Essay

i have read that the essay to college should be about a particular EC that you have participated in and i am torn.

choice 1:
i have coached a youth soccer team for the past three years- putting in over 200 hours of community service- i have learned a lot about the kids and myself and have had an awesome time

choice 2:
i recently enacted an awareness project in my high school about the genocide in Darfur, i feel very strongly about this issue and plan to major in International Relations in college, but i didn't put nearly as much time into the project as i did coaching

which topic sounds like it would make a better college essay?

i would say choice two. however, seeing as its only may im guessing you have quite a bit of time until this essay needs to be completed. so i would say you should write both (assuming you havent already done this) and take it from there. there is probably going to be one topic that, once you start writing, you'll see you have more to say about. or complete them both, have people read them and let them decide based on the finished product.

THE essay? If you mean the personal statement (the longer college essay), then it does not have to be about an EC. Mine was about my relationship with my father.

There is a common app essay question about an EC, and for that, it would be better to do question 2. Or you could do 1 for the first essay and 2 for the second one.
