My home is in actuality very, very, very, dysfunctional. By that, I mean, constant fights between my parents, and even my dad threatening to leave, which might leave my brothers, and myself, and mother alone. Despite that, I'm in excelling in several AP classes, and have a fair number of EC's, and still watch over my brothers. Granted I get a high SAT score, do you think that I could put into my essay to selective colleges how I overcame this, and have an intellectual thirst for succeeding now, and later on in life? Would it be a good topic to use throughout the essay?

If you can spin it so it explains where your motivation comes from and what these experiences have taught you, it could be a good essay. But don't let it become a justification for any weaknesses in your academic performance. Don't overdo the dysfunctional details, focus on the development of your personality and concerns.
