I am stuck... how do you respond to the question "how did you learn about (this university)?" I want to be specific, but I was not able to visit every campus. I just want to give a solid answer.

Be honest. How did you hear about the school? It can be random, even trifling–so long as it led you to learn more about the university from a legitimate source. For my Georgetown essay, I wrote about how I became interested in it when I learned a poet (Carolyn Forche) worked there; for Brown, about how a writing instructor I admired went there. Both were small, insignificant exposures to the schools, but they led me to websites, to forums, to current students, etc.

IMO, what they want to know from this question is why, out of all the schools you’ve heard about and been exposed to, are you applying to this one? I found moving from an insignificant exposure to more in-depth exploration to an explanation of why the school fit me to be the most logical way to organize my essay.

The essay forum will have advice as well.

okay thank you for the help! For my Santa Clara essay I think I will just discuss I first became familiar with it when I did my 4th grade CA mission project. Would something along those lines work?
