College Essays

What are some examples of the questions most schools ask you for an application? I know there is the personal statement but most universities and colleges tend to differ in questions asked. Are they mostly straightforward; like what kind of person are you? or why do you want to come here? Are they more vague and open to creativity from the writer; If they were to find you at school where would they find you? or What would you do if you sent away to a different country that you have no knowledge of?

The three which I’ve found nearly ubiquitous so far:
Why ______ (Why their college?)
How has your life/community shaped the person you are?
What intellectually excites you?

Others are more creative. UChicago’s gives plenty of room for creative license. As do Tuft’s, which were also recently released.

You know about the Common App prompts, right?

Mostly schools want to know why you’re applying, what your goals are, things like that.

To get an idea, I recommend searching past applications and looking at the essay prompts. From what my son saw, they didn’t tend to change that much , although i’ts always on a case by case basis.
